Typical American???
Of course, when you’re in a different country, you always see things which are very different from your home country and may look stupid or awkward to you.
So I thought, lets write them down on a page so I can look back at it at the end of my internship. Maybe then they don’t seem so different or awkward to me anymore .
Every time I have something new, I’ll put it on this page.
Payments
- Everyone uses their credit card, even for payments in the supermarket or little payments at gas stations. <27-08-2005>
- They use checks a lot for paying allowance or rents. Next to every bank is a deposit machine where you can drive by with your car to deposit your checks to your bank account. <27-08-2005>
Food
- A lot of sweet things for breakfast, like pancakes and donuts. <27-08-2005>
- When its not something sweet, it’s oatmeal or cereal. (they have a lot of different kinds of cereal) <27-08-2005>
- They often go out for lunch or dinner <27-08-2005>
- The food is really salty (I have a pack of rice cakes, “light salted” it says….. So how come I get really thirsty if I eat one of them? The butter is also very salty here) <28-08-2005>
- They put peanut butter in everyting -_^ <02-09-2005>
Supermarket
- Large supermarkets with a lot of choices for all different kinds of foods and sodas. <27-08-2005>
- They sell high percentage alcoholic drinks in the supermarket. <27-08-2005>
- Everything is available in large format, like four liter cans of fruit juices, family pack for snacks and large soap packages. <27-08-2005>
- Food is expensive, drinks are cheap, even alcoholic drinks. <27-08-2005>
T.V
- Big screens. <27-08-2005>
- Lots of different channels. <27-08-2005>
- Lots of different kinds of police series (Law and Order, The Closer, CSI Miami, Wanted………) <27-08-2005>
- They have a lot of commercial breaks, only the time of the commercial blocks are shorter. <27-08-2005>
